New motherboard! My current one has been limping along for some time. I did get the RMA, but to go without a motherboard for two weeks? Solution: buy another motherboard and then RMA this one. For the geeks in the audience the new board is an Asus A8N-SLI Premium. Since it’s a pain to install these beasties, I’m waiting until this weekend. I wasn’t even going to open the box, but I did, just to look at the packaging. Then I got all curious and started rooting around in the packaging box.

Pro tip: You can eat foam peanuts. They’re not good for you, but either is Ramen and lots of people eat that.

My current motherboard had its serial number in the most awkward place possible. I’d have to unscrew everything to get to it. However, through the use of a compact powder mirror and a flashlight, I was able to get the SN off the motherboard.

BOOYA

I was trying to use the camera to zoom in on the mirror, but it wouldn’t focus. Still pretty awkward to get the serial number, but better than ripping everything out.

Fireball the Fat has looked so cute the last few days! A couple of days ago he slowly walked into the cuddle cup (that’s what Little John is laying on below), and then once completely in, he popcorned! Beep!

That a dicey situation. They say that two times a charm. Well maybe they dont but in your case it will be.
Better sucess this time. Then you can forget about it for many years to come.
Kim

They both just came out.the difference is the Venice core CPUs have 512K L2 cache, and the San Diego have 1M L2 cahce. That is all. They are both the newest cores for AMD.
geekboy

Yeah I wasn't planning on picking up a new CPU. Oh well. Say do you know if Venice or San Diego the newer core?
jocelyn

Oooh, a new Venice chip! however, i bet you could have done without the extra cost for a new CPU and mobo. Upgrades are w00t, but spending lots of money isnt so fun.
Geekboy

Well the stock heatsink is stuck to the CPU, and so I couldn't latch the CPU down and instead had to lower the heatsink/CPU donw onto the new motherboard. At some point the pins got bent, I bent them back, but now it doesn't work anymore. I have a 3500+ Venice getting overnighted here though.
jocelyn

Broke the CPU?! Thas not good :( what happen? heatsink not go on properly?
Geekboy

Actually I broke my CPU :(
jocelyn

Hope it went well!
